Pittsburgh Steelers & Penn State
My sister Carrie drove the ladies to the city yesterday for the last cycle of chemo. Carrie showed up at the house with her arm in a cast and 15 minutes late, but that is not too bad and pretty much expected ( yes, even the arm ) if you know Carrie....
So they got to the city with no problems and got settled into the Ronald by 6pm. I was a bit worried that the New York City Marathon might have given them some direction issues, but it didn't. The ladies will be staying through next week during the low count/fever week just to be safe this close to the end. The trips to Syracuse proved to be exhausting and with the weather changing, we do not want to take any chances on anything at this point.
So - 2 more actual chemo days!! This nightmare has been going on way too long and it will soon be time to get used to our "new normal" life. The day to day activities will still be the same as they were prior to this but the way we go about the day and how we look at the days will be forever different.
I can not thank everyone enough for all of the help and support that has been extended to my family. I will be forever grateful to all!! My employer and my wifes employer have also been so understanding and wonderful as well as all of our co-workers. It is hard for me to wrap my head around how the goodness comes out of all when you are faced with such dire straights. I have and will continue to make personal changes in my life to better adjust the way I go about my days and the way I can reach out and help others!
Thanksgiving dinner is going to be one heck of a celebration, I can not wait to have all of the family and friends gather for this event. Good health, great food & conversation, friends and family - that pretty much defines the holiday!!
I have volunteered myself (maybe sacrificed is a better term) to Christine for the Black Friday shopping experience ( thanks KATE ). How bad can it really be? Just get up early and do some shopping, no problem!!
To everyone out there - please make it a point to stop in and visit during the holidays. There will always be a bottle of champagne chilled for anyone that visits, we look forward to seeing as many friends as we can!!
It was so good to see Dallas be able to get out of bed on her own and to see her make her way through the house, slow and steady but regardless she is still doing it. I look forward for the day when she can return to her bedroom upstairs and I can claim my dining room back!!
So Penn State remains undefeated and ranked #3 but somehow did not make the move to #2 in the country when #1 Texas lost this week - not sure how that can happen but they will play for the National Championship, mark my words!! The mighty Steelers play the Redskins tonight - it should be a good game. With the ladies gone, it is going to be a guys football night at home. Remy, Harley and I will watch the game, drink a couple beers and munch on wings while we root the Steelers ( or Stillers for those of you reading this from the da burgh ) on to victory.
Love,
