Home for two weeks!

All,

Sorry it's taken me so long to write an update.  I sat down last Friday night after Dallas finished her 5th round of chemo and wrote a blog but from some reason I must not have saved it.  That is part of my problem these days, I am exhausted!  I also have a cold so I am walking around my house with a surgical mask on.  Dallas just laughs at me!

We have been home since Sunday night.  We waited until after she finished hydrating on Saturday to come home.  They sent us back to the Ronald McDonald house after chemo was over on Friday with an IV still accessed to Dallas' port and a few bags of hydration.  I was trained on a dummy named Chester how to remove her IV after the hydration was complete.  I told Dallas not to worry as I was certified and my certificate was being mailed.  She didn't laugh.

She now has a tutor coming into our home for two hours a day.  Bill gave Dallas a "D" on her first Science project so I took that role away from him! This works better as her tutor is doing the actual coursework her other classmates are doing that same day.

Dallas started physical Therapy last week during chemo and its a definite challenge.  At first I thought it would be impossible as her surgeon assigned the task to me every hour.  He stated we would not be able to get anyone in the home to work with her as much as she needs so I had to suck it up and be the bad guy!  I cried!  It's hard being mom, nurse and now mean physical therapist!  She cried in agony the first few days but now she is standing up at the edge of her bed with her crutches.  She hasn't taken her first step yet but I imagine when she does it will be for her father.

On a sad note my mother left today.  She was here for two months and was more help than I think I realized!  She will definitely be missed!  Thank you mom!

We anticipate Dallas will need transfusions by Friday and hopefully by Tuesday next week her counts will be back up and she can venture out of the house.  She has two more rounds of chemo left.  We can see the end coming near and it feels great!

Much love,

Mom
