Cycle 5 is in progress
Dallas is back in the city, smack dab in the middle of cycle 5 of her chemo treatments. After today, she will have 9 more actual chemo treatments spread out over the next 7 weeks. That sure sounds better than the 14 actual treatments she already has had.
The ladies had a nice 12 day visit home, a much needed visit I may add. Her bff Rachel even spent the night Saturday, it was good to see Dallas socializing with someone not only her own age but also someone not wearing a white lab coat.
Dallas was able to attend a family dinner this past Saturday night, she lasted almost 3 hours before she finally gave in to her exhaustion. It was really nice to have her out of the house, more importantly - out of her bed!!
They met with Doc Healy today to look at the leg and such. He is pleased with how it looks. Dallas is now on an accelerated physical therapy course - she needs to flex her foot every hour and Doc wants her up and about on her crutches as soon as she can do it.
It goes without saying, on top of the chemo and now the PT - she is not the happiest person today..... I gave her the old "no pain no gain" speech over the phone. I feel really lucky that I did this over the phone for her response to me was not a pleasant one and I probably would have been either hit with a bed pan or a crutch if I was there in person giving her the speech.....
The plan is to finish chemo on Saturday then come home either Sunday or Monday. I really hope the PT goes well and Dallas starts using her crutches. I feel the independence this will give her will help her feel better and give her a more positive mental attitude.
This Saturday is the Stupid Chopper benefit. I will be there and Justin will also be there respresenting Dallas. If any of you make it there, please be sure to say hello to us! The flyer is on the friendsofdallas website.
Please keep the prayers and positive mojo flowing!!

Dallas,
Hey, I just wanted to let you know I would be praying for you through therapy. Its going to hurt, and be hard work, and feel like you're never going to make it, but let me give you this advice: When you're tired and want to give up--one more step. When you're having a real bad day and don't want to do it--one more step. When you slip and fall and you're afraid to hurt your legs--one more step. When you're barfing all over from chemo and it would be really easy to say "I'm too sick" --ONE MORE STEP. Don't say "I can't"--TAKE ONE MORE STEP. When I used to ride alot of mountain bike, I learned that everyone can ride fast on flat ground. I practiced passing people by pushing harder on the uphills. You win the race when everyone is tired and you pass'em on the hardest part of the race. Please take one more step.
Jay Hartman
P.S. I hope I win the Stoopid Bike so that I can come to NY and meet you and your family.
